GFB's Story

Hello everyone I'm back home.

Had a very emotional and rough ride yesterday.

I got up in the morining and was so excited...not a bit nervous! I jumped up and down at the start line when they wished me happy birthday...did you hear them!

Was well kitted out (ha...ye's all slagged me when I said I was wearing leggings!!) and my dearest had a big umbrella for me to huddle under until the off.

Started off well, the crowds were amazing! I was really enjoying my self, until I got to Phoenix Park and some stupid woman shouted "Don't give up, you're nearly there!" WHAT!!

Anyway put that behind me and was so touched by the crowd support, but when I got to 8 miles I started getting and awful pain in my right knee. By the time I got to 9 or 10 miles I was limping badly and stopped the St John's people for drugs...2 paracetemol!! What no pethedine!

Well I was limping badly but trying to keep up my pace, slowed badly but I was determined to finish no matter what.

When I got to 24 miles a girls with an Alzheimers t shirt cam up to me and asked me who I was running for. I told her my father in law and she told me she was running for her granda. Well that was me finished. I had to go the last 2 miles choking back the tears.

I never thought I would see the last mile, I passed Kennedy's and looked to see if I could see anyone, but no!

Got round the corner for the last run up and was cryong so hard that I had to cover my mouth! I passed my family who were all at the finish!! They yelled and cried and I sobbed even more.

They wished me happy birthday as I crossed the line! The man who cut off my chip was asking me if I was ok...*sob* and he said "well thats your first one over" and I said *sob...choke* "how did you know!

I got round the corner and fell into the arms of Mr GFB and lost it completely. I've never felt so moved in my whole life.

I finished in 5:55, 25 minutes outside my time BUT I finished and I'm so happy!!
